The Special Olympics Ontario Winter Provincial Games

On Thursday, I went on a team bus to North Bay for the Provincial Games. There were people from Windsor on the bus, and we picked up people from Kitchener/Waterloo. My dad is an alpine coach and my sister, Angela is a Nordic coach, so they were on the bus too.

It was a long bus ride and then we got to our hotel. We got ready and went to the Opening

Ceremonies. They were awesome. We paraded in with our team, the Southwestern region. Everyone was clapping and cheering. Then there were dancers and singers and then the Law Enforcement Torch Run came in with the flame. There were lots of police officers and two that are from London. They are my friends, Mark and Derek.

The next day, we had lots of bags to carry. We left the hotel and went to the ski hill. We got to do a practice run and then they gave us some information. Then, it was race time.

First, it was the GS race. That stands for Grand Slalom. I tried my hardest and I got the gold medal! My mom was at the bottom of the course and she was so proud of me. My dad was there, because he is a coach, and he was very happy.

Then we had the awards ceremony and they put the gold medal on my neck.

I was glad to go back into the chalet afterwards because it was very cold.

That night, we had a Friends and Family dinner. There were hundreds of people all having dinner together and I really liked it. We laughed and joked around a lot.

The next day, we did it all again. In the morning, I raced the Super G. I got a Silver medal in that race. I was very happy because my roommate, Alaina, won the gold. She is from Kitchener, which is the South Central region.

Then, in the afternoon I raced the Slalom and I got another gold.

That night, we had the Closing Ceremonies. There was a great band and they played a video of lots of the things that had happened at the games. After the ceremonies, there was a dance for the athletes.

The next day, we all boarded the bus and headed back home.

I had so much fun. I got to see some friends from other cities that I only see at games. The other London athletes all did really good at the games. My coaches are so awesome and I think they had fun all weekend, too.
